The Pleasant Hills Public Library Announces the following July Events.

Summer Hours 2015

June 20 - August 29

Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Sunday - Closed

Pleasant Hills Public Library will also be closed July 3 and 4, 2015 for the holiday weekend.

 

Adult Programs

Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Club meets on Monday, July 13 at 1 p.m. This month’s selection The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Extra copies of the book are available at the front desk. Newcomers welcome!

The Conversation Salon meets on Friday, July 10 from 1 - 3 p.m. Share your thoughts and opinions on various topics of discussion. Newcomers always welcome. Refreshments served.

Embellish Your Flip Flops on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m. Make a summer fashion statement using a variety of trims to make your flip flops dazzle! Bring your own flip flops. Great fun for adults and girls 10 or older. $3 material fee.

Learn About Day Lilies on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. The Pleasant Hill Garden Club presents a display of day lilies and provides useful information about planting, growing and caring for these showy summer blooms.

Be well informed with Savvy Social Security on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. Know what you should be doing before and after you retire—even if you are already receiving social security. Presented by Angela Carrier of First Investors.

Relax in the fresh air with Music on the Library Lawn on Thursday, July 23 at 7 p.m. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a delightful concert, featuring four talented flautists, Lana Timmins, Pam Page, Janet Hayes and Miranda Morehead, The quartet will play a selection of classics from Boccherini, Vivaldi, Handel, Sousa and others.

The Book Group meets Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m. This month’s selection is The Vintage Caper by Peter Mayle. Extra copies of the book available at the front desk.

The Pleasant Players Reader’s Theater debuts on Tuesday July 21 at 7 p.m. Enjoy reenactments of two popular radio shows from the 1940s – My Friend Irma and The Life of Riley - complete with sound effects and theme music.

The bi-monthly Book Talk will be held on Friday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Jack Aupperle will review, American General: The Life and Times of William Tecumseh Sherman by J. D. Eisenhower. Note the change in date from the third to the fourth Friday of the month.

 

Children, Teen and Family Programs

Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, June 2 – August 25 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 pm. Explore different themes through stories, songs, crafts, and a snack. For children ages 3 1/2 to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Baby Book Nook: Wednesdays, June 3 – August 26 at 10:30 a.m. Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Superhero Stem: Wednesdays, June 10 – August 12 at 2 p.m. Explore elementary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from a superhero’s perspective. Call the library to find out what each week’s topic will be. For children entering grades 1- 5. Please register by calling 412-655-2424 or emailing danylod@einetwork.net

Tot Time: Thursdays, June 4 – August 27 at 10:30 a.m. Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack. For children ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Teen Talk: Thursdays, June 11 – August 13 at 12:30 p.m. Stuff your face with delicious pizza while playing games and hanging out with friends. For teens going into grades 6 – 12. No registration necessary.

Evening Bug Hunt and Hike: Monday, July 6 at 7 p.m. Meet Chad Gore, local entomologist, at the Pleasant Hills Arboretum to learn about bugs in our area. We’ll search for specific bugs while enjoying an evening nature hike. This program will take place at the Pleasant Hills Arboretum located at 181 West Bruceton Road. Family program. Taco Tuesdays: Middle School Book Discussion: Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. Join Miss Terry for lively discussion and delicious snacks.
