The final month of summer at Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center brings about the end of the Fizz, Boom, Read! Summer Reading Program. Before it ends though, there are several great activities left in which to participate, including a special Shooting Star program provided by the California University Meteorology Club.
The Shooting Stars program will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 1 p.m. This event will be right before the August 10 - 13 meteor showers!
In addition to this program there will continue to be weekly story times, on Mondays at 6 p.m. until August 11, and Crafty Wednesdays at 5 p.m. until August 13. Fizz, Boom, Read! will end on Saturday, August 16 with a finale party held from 12 – 1:30 p.m. at the library. There will be fun craft activities, games and drawings for prizes. Although summer reading is ending, story times will not be gone for long! Fall Story Time will begin on Monday, September 22 at 6 p.m.
Claire McMullen will host her monthly Beginning Genealogy Program on Saturday, August 9 at 11 a.m. in the Pennsylvania Room. The theme for August will be "Emigration and Immigration." She will discuss the factors, destinations, and time periods, which resulted in the movement of vast numbers of people from one area of the world to another, and how to track that movement in terms of genealogy. The class is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Monessen Public Library is located at 326 Donner Ave., Monessen, and can be reached at 724-684-4750.
