The news keeps getting better for people who suffer strokes in the mid-Monongahela Valley — they are getting better largely due to the excellent care provided by the medical team at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH). The hospital received the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines® Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. This distinction recognizes MVH’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association awarded the Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award to MVH for achieving at least 12 consecutive months of adherence to all Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Achievement indicators and achieving at least 12 consecutive months of compliance with five of 10 Get With the Guidelines Stroke Quality Measures during that same period of time, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. These measures include aggressive use of medications, such cholesterol reducing drugs, and smoking cessation, which are aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
In addition to providing fast intervention to people suffering from strokes, Monongahela Valley Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and offers a Stroke Support Group that meets the first Thursday of each month.
