Monongahela Valley Hospital recently hosted “Managing Substance Abuse”, a three-part series for local Health care professionals in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.

The three sessions educated on acute phases of substance abuse, diversion behaviors of substance abuse and community response to substance abuse. Over 100 health care professional attended the series to learn from community advisors, lawmakers, medical experts and law enforcement officers. The goals of this series were to define a substance abuser and the addiction process, identify what happens in the acute care phase, identify what happens when an abuser becomes a patient, what resources are utilized after an abuser is identified and what changes need to be made to the system.
