Girl Friday Cooking Co. Celebrates Recent Grand Opening

A Peters Township resident recently opened a new cooking business in Finleyville. Girl Friday Cooking Co., owned and operated by Peters Township resident Gretchen McNary, celebrated its grand opening on November 7. The business, which specializes in Paleo cooking, is located at 3540 Washington Ave.

“We are very excited to celebrate our opening with the residents of Finleyville and surrounding areas, and most especially to join the Finleyville business community,” McNary said. “There will be fun for the whole family, including lots of food and drinks, cupcakes and even a kids’ area.”

Girl Friday Cooking specializes in a wide range of Paleo dishes, which are meals that are full of lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats that are free of artificial or processed ingredients. “I approach the Girl Friday menu just as I would my family's own weekly menu,” McNary explained. “I sit down and think about what is in season and what I would like to eat for the week.”

McNary launched Girl Friday Cooking in December 2014, when she began cooking for people using her own kitchen and supplies. She received four orders the first week, 16 the second and by January 1, she was totaling about 130 meals per week. Today, she averages between 170 to 200 orders per week-- numbers that required her to seek out the larger commercial space.

In addition to the food, Girl Friday Cooking also offers gift certificates and can make meals for new parents, families who have just moved, individuals who have recently suffered a loss and for those with various other special circumstances.

Also taking part in the Girl Friday Cooking grand opening festivities is Running Om Green, a local company that specializes in making healthy juices and drinks for people of all ages. Amy Gordon, who founded the business, will be sharing business space with Girl Friday Cooking.

“I got the idea for my business about six years ago, when I was trying to get my children to eat fruits and vegetables,” Gordon said. “We started making healthy smoothies and that evolved into juices. I am hoping that what I offer makes life easier for other families.”
