Community Invited to “We Are Family” Gala with Former Pirates Players

Family Hospice and Palliative Care welcomes the community to the “We Are Family” celebration event marking 35 years of caring for family, friends and neighbors of Western PA. “We Are Family” takes place on November 12, 2015 at South Hills Country Club, 4305 Brownsville Rd., beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The evening will feature a roundtable discussion with the Pirates’ family from the 1970s. This will include players Steve Blass, Manny Sanguillen and Kent “Teke” Tekulve, as well as Greg Brown (front office in the 1970s and current announcer). Paul Alexander from ROOT Sports will moderate the banter as the group recalls those “We Are Family” years.

Another highlight of the evening will be honoring Carol Sayers Vockel, the longest-serving volunteer who has been with Family Hospice throughout the 35-year history of caring.

“’We Are Family’ celebrates the Family Hospice organization that was framed, built and supported by our volunteer, healthcare and community partners,” shares Family Hospice President and CEO Barbara Ivanko. “It is these families that we honor and recognize and invite others to join.”

Family Hospice serves an average of 3,300 patients annually in nine counties. Proceeds from “We Are Family” support the provision of life-enhancing services to individuals and families, including bereavement outreach and uncompensated care for those who qualify.

UPMC and the Pirates are the lead sponsors for the event.

Tickets are now on sale for $100 and can be purchased by calling 412-572-8812 or by visiting FamilyHospicePA.org. Ticket price includes the reception, award presentation, dinner, and Pirates roundtable followed by audience Q&A.

For more information about the event, please contact Christine Jamison, Special Events Coordinator, at 412-572-8812, or cjamison@FamilyHospicePA.org.
