Business & Merchant

By Ken Askew

Many businesses just don’t last very long, but the Old West Wash House in Bethel Park isn’t one of them. Remarkably, it started 30 years ago and owner Mike Klipsic just signed a new 25-year lease.

The Old West Wash House in Hillcrest Shopping Center in Bethel Park is a modern, clean facility that sports a western theme.
An entrepreneur, Klipsic bought the business 15 years ago and has been very successful ever since—as he was with the other 36 businesses he owned (as many as five at the same time!) and sold since he was nine years old. He’s a bundle of energy and one of the most jovial business people you can meet. An interesting guy, he would be glad to regale you with tales of his 20 years as a mobile DJ, a worker for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and his current hobby as an ornamental scroll saw artist at local medieval festivals.

This business literally has a “laundry list” of provided services, including drop-off service for laundry, dry cleaning done in a day on the premises, alterations, leather cleaning, dress shirts individually hand-pressed, and contract services with other businesses. Klipsic says, “Come in, and we’ll provide you with your best-ever laundry and dry cleaning experience.”

Owner Mike Klipsic boasts that Sandy Shamonsky is so adept at getting stains out of fabrics, it’s almost magical!
An attendant is always onsite at the store, and an extensive security system ensures the patrons’ safety. Customer parking is located next to the entrance door, and the bus line stops at the curb.

The store is filled with gleaming, new, high-efficiency, coin-operated appliances, including 35 washers and 28 dryers. Customers can relax in the lounge, which is outfitted with comfortable livingroom style furniture, and watch a flat-screen TV while their laundry is done. Customers tell him that they actually pass other laundromats on the way to Old West because they prefer to use his facility even though it’s farther away.

The facility is located at 4950 Library Road (Route 88), Bethel Park, in the Hillcrest Shopping Center. Daily hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please call 412-835-8009 for more information.
