Carmike Southland 9 in Pleasant Hills was a true wonderland to behold for patrons this holiday season. Carmike manager Phil Koutsoulio and employee Bette Zaken, who designs the displays, said they like to make the theater nice for the holidays.

 The children’s display was popular, and the kids were mesmerized by the snow-white deer.
The highly detailed displays cover the entire large lobby of the theater and progress along the hallways to the entrances of the theaters. "We've been around for quite a few years and have entertained kids as they grew up. Now they bring their own children to the theater as part of their holiday traditions,“ Zaken said. She works endlessly the weeks prior to the holidays to have everything ready in time for Thanksgiving. “Lots of people come in to take their holiday photos with the displays and maybe enjoy a movie,” she said. Zaken usually leaves the displays in place through January, removing sets one by one so they are kept together for next year. Then, she starts to decorate for Valentine’s Day!
