Store hours of operation are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. -6 p.m. All items are donated with proceeds benefiting the homeless or near-homeless and at risk young adults, ages 18-24 years old.
Current organizational officers are Marci Elsbury, Susan Jones and Rita Boettner. Regarding her inspiration for the opening of Mantle House Mission, Elsbury noted, “I received this vision to open a transitional home for young adults after taking a young man into my home in 2010. We cared for and loved him and provided assistance to him when he most needed it.”
Elsbury has become aware of the rising numbers of homeless young adults throughout the nation. They are struggling to maintain independence and are often stuck between making too much wages for food stamps, but not enough to pay the bills. Many do not have health insurance.
Mantle House Mission’s goal is to support young adults in times of temporary transition while they journey into adulthood. Residents can expect to gain independent living skills, access resources and interface with mentor advocates to help meet physical, behavioral and spiritual needs.
Elsbury hopes to continue to raise awareness of the problem through community education so residents can find a desire to reach out to young adults. Those wanting to get involved can encourage progress in the quest, provide store donations, or assist with fundraising, mentoring and professional guidance and skills.
