The award, which is one of the health system’s most prestigious honors, was presented to the West Newton resident during MVHR’s Annual Service Awards Reception on May 7.

Those eligible for the Protin Award have served the health system for at least a decade, go above and beyond what is required and demonstrated the qualities of leadership, loyalty, compassion and empathy.

Human Resources assistant Laurie Chester, the 2018 Protin Award recipient, presented the award to Mr. Coccari.

“Chris Coccari is a dedicated and compassionate nurse who is leader among his peers,” said Mrs. Chester. “Although he has demanding responsibilities at Monongahela Valley Hospital, he works tirelessly throughout the year to raise money for community charities including the Epiphany of Our Lord in Monessen, Allenport Lions Club, Monessen Italian Club, Donora Fire Company and Monessen Public Library by attending car shows with his Ford Mustang.

“This is a very touching honor,” said Mr. Coccari, as he graciously accepted the award. “It is so unexpected. I feel so privileged to work at Mon Valley Hospital.”
