On any given Tuesday you will find a group of young boys gathered in a building, nestled in the heart of Peters Township. Dressed in olive uniforms adorned with badges, this group has the unique distinction of being the first Trail Life USA troop in the area.
After being affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years and producing an impressive 67 Eagle Scouts, Troop 1393 made the decision to move to the more traditional, Christian based Trail Life USA last year. Sponsored by the Crossroads Church of Christ, led by Eric Rauscher and supported by a host of strong role models, the troop embodies the core values of Trail Life USA. Boys in the program earn badges and ranks but the true focus of the group is to instill character and leadership skills that will follow them into adulthood.
Troop 1393 is an extremely active troop. The boys, ranging from K through 12, are enthusiastic about the activities in which they participate. These activities vary and include skiing, canoeing, hiking, fishing, caving, BMX riding, trips to Washington DC, Niagara Falls, iron chef contests, caroling at a local retirement home and of course camping just to mention a few. The 2019 Mousetrap car race was a recent event the troop held. It was wonderful to see such a positive and encouraging group. They enjoyed a fun-filled evening cheering each other on and making new friendships.
