Since the fund was created by the WCCF Board in 2004, it has provided numerous small grants to the Frank Sarris Public Library, Canonsburg Hospital, Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church and several other charities providing programs in the Canonsburg Community.

As the fund was issuing its final grants, a decision was made to issue two larger grants to enable greater impact. Selected to receive grants were two organizations which are serving many Canonsburg residents. WCCF Trustee Tammy Hardy and Foundation staff recently visited the organizations to present the grants.

The Friends of Canonsburg Town Park received a $1,000 grant for the Canonsburg pickleball program. The sport of pickleball is taught in the physical education classes in the Canon-McMillan School District and continues to grow in the community with players ranging from 8 to 78 in the pickleball program at Canonsburg Town Park. Funds from the grant will be used for benches, a portable net, and a canopy to improve the pickleball court area in the park.

The Metro Pittsburgh Youth for Christ received a $5,000grant for the Canonsburg Armory Youth Center Afterschool program. Funds from the grant will be used to provide homework help, tutoring, computer software, educational materials, and a safe, supervised activity-driven program for students who attend Canonsburg Middle School.

Cumulatively, the WCCF has awarded almost $10 million in grants and scholarships to improve the quality of life in Washington County since it began operations in December of 1995.
