Library News

Whitehall Public Library announces September Events.

Word 2013 Overview - Saturday, September 5, 19, & 26 / 11 a.m. - noon

Drop in for a brief overview of how the new Word 2013 works. We'll go over the tabs (File, Design, Insert, etc) as well as formatting and new features. You can also sign up for self-directed continued learning with our new service, Universal Class. We’ll show you how!

Keeping God's Hand Clean: The Devil in the Old and New Testaments - Wednesday September 9 @ 7 p.m. This program will examine the Bible's response to one of history's oldest and most challenging questions: Where does evil come from? Our special guest speaker is Dr. Rebecca Denova of the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Religious Studies. FREE - registration required.

SPECIAL Family NIGHT--The Pillowcase Project - Monday September 14 @ 7 p.m.

This program, sponsored by Disney, empowers children in grades 3rd through 5th to take action before and during an emergency. After Hurricane Katrina, students in makeshift communities began to decorate pillowcases to hold their belongings. The pillowcase became a symbol of resilience in the face of emergency. Each child will receive a pillowcase to personalize as well as a My Preparedness Workbook to complete with family and friends. FREE- registration required.

Win a Free Cruise! And Other Scams to Avoid - Tuesday September 22 @ 1 p.m.

Senior citizens are the number one target for internet and phone frauds. In this modern world, it is very easy to be seduced by free offers, special discounts, and fabulous giveaways too good to be true. Join us for an informative chat with Eileen Mazza of the AARP Consumer Issues Task Force who will discuss the ever-changing face of confidence games in the age of the cell phone and laptop. She’ll provide maneuvers on how to avoid scammers as well as the telltale signs of bogus offers.

FREE- registration required.
