 Children, Teen, and Family Programs

Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, January 6 – April 28 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Explore different themes through stories, songs, crafts, and a snack. For children ages 3 1/2 to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Evening Baby Book Nook: Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Join Miss Terry in the evening for nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Baby Book Nook: Wednesdays, January 7 – April 29 at 10:30 a.m. Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Tot Time: Thursdays, January 8 – April 30 at 10:30 a.m. Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack. For children ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Storytime With The Girl Scouts – Growing Things: Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. Learn about all things that grow: plants, animals, and even you. Leprechaun Traps: Thursday, March 12 at 4 p.m. Make a colorful trap in hopes of catching your very own leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day. Bring along any recyclables you’d like to use in your trap. Taco Tuesdays: Middle School Book Discussion: Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. Join Miss Terry for lively discussion and delicious snacks. This month we will be discussing Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck. Anime Club: Thursday, March 19 at 4 p.m. Do you enjoy anime and manga? Come talk with fellow fans, watch some anime, try some Japanese snacks, and learn about new and interesting titles. For teens in grades 6 – 12. No registration necessary.

Personalized Paper Dolls: Monday, March 23 at 4:30 p.m. Paper dolls were all the rage in the 1940s. Help us celebrate our 70th anniversary by making your very own personalized paper doll. Annual Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza: Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. A mischievous bunny has hidden eggs throughout the entire library and we need your help to find them. Join us for stories, games, crafts, snacks, and an extreme egg hunt. Fun for the whole family. A $2 donation per child is requested. Tail Wagging Tutors: Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. Trained therapy dogs will be here hoping to hear a story or two. Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some furry friends. Readers Theater: Looking for interested teens and adults for a Readers Theater to perform old radio plays from 1940s for library program and outreach to local senior facilities. Call 412-655-2424 or email gealys@einetwork.net if interested.

Spring Sport Vision Screening: Thursday, March 5 from 6 - 8 p.m. Free eye exams available for children and young adults playing spring sports performed by Dr. Jeffrey Cianflone. Register for an appointment at inmotionperformance.net.

Conversation Salon: Friday, March 6 from 1 - 3 p.m. Lively group discussions on a variety of topics. Newcomers with open minds welcome to participate. Light refreshments served.

Silent Reading: Friday, March 6 from 6 - 9 p.m. Come after hours to experience old-time library quiet and enjoy a good book uninterrupted. Also enjoy coffee, tea, hot chocolate and donuts. Bring a blanket and pillow for additional coziness. Come for part of the evening or entire three hours.

Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Club: Monday, March 9 at 1 p.m. This month’s selection is The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon. Extra copies available at front desk.

Writers’ Group: Tuesday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. Professional and beginning writers in all genres invited to participate. Bring is a sample writing to share with the group or write a poem, essay or short story about the Disco Era.

Evening Book Group: Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. This month’s read is Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink, the One Book One Community selection for Allegheny County.

Book Talk: Friday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Jack Aupperle discusses John Wayne: the Life and Legend by Scott Eyman.

Chi Walking: Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. Ken Presutti shows how to apply the principles of Tai Chi to walking. Learn how to walk more efficiently and be less susceptible to injury.

Playing St. Barbara: Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Commemorate Women’s History Month with author Marian Szczepanski as she discusses her debut novel about the lives of a coal miner’s wife and her three daughters living in Fayette County in the aftermath of the coal miners’ strike of 1928. “ . . . a stunning debut novel that shimmers with unforgettable characters while casting necessary light on a dark chapter in American history.”
