On Saturday, March 17, 2027, from 4:00 – 5:45 pm, the Donora Public Library hosted a St. Patrick’s Day Party for area children. With the luck of the Irish, a small group of children and a former worker who attended despite the cold, snowy weather. Children’s Program Coordinator Ashley DeMidio had storybooks and arts and crafts, including materials to make Leprechaun traps, all planned out. But the children entertained themselves with computer games, playing ball, and other interactive games. They enjoyed snacks at the party, too. DeMidio works with children from babies to teenagers.
She explained the history of St. Patrick’s Day and why the holiday was named after St. Patrick. When St. Patrick was kidnapped, he was sold as a slave. Then he escaped from Ireland. When he finally made it back to Ireland, he wanted to teach the people about religion. He had seen many clovers. He referred to the 3-leaf clover as the Holy Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. DeMidio says the holiday has magic to it, and she wanted to recognize that fun with the Leprechaun.
DeMidio stated, “We have an amazing group of neighborhood kids, and I love to host activities where they can be kids. Everyone is welcome.”
For your visit, the Donora Public Library is located at 510 Meldon Ave. and is open Monday – Friday, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Mark Boyer has been the Library Director since 2018. The library features cozy seating, computers, a helpful staff, and most importantly, outstanding books on hand.
