Phil Schaltenbrand, founder and owner of Westerwald Pottery of Scenery Hill, PA, will be the guest speaker on Monday, May 19 at the monthly meeting of the Charleroi Area Historical Society. Schaltenbrand earned his art degree at Kutztown University and would eventually teach art classes for 33 years, the last 30 years as a professor at California University of Pennsylvania.

The idea of establishing a weekly summer farmers' market in Peters Township was born over a year ago in the office of Rev. Kris McInnes at St. David's Episcopal Church. After discussing the idea with some of the mothers in his congregation, the ball started rolling. Within several weeks, a group was formed and eight volunteers came together with the pastor to start working on the project.
