Summer on Main Street Block Party Held in Monongahela

This family came from Charleroi to see bands. They are: Dean Perdola, age 9, Chelsea Cole, their mom, and Evander Cole, age 3.

On July 9, a Main St. Block Party was held again after an overwhelming response in June. Despite intermittent downpours of rain throughout the day, around 200 people still came out and enjoyed everything the event had to offer. The event was held on Main Street in Monongahela, from 4:00PM - 8:00PM.

“The June and July Block Parties both had rain right at the beginning, but that didn’t stop people from coming out and showing their support,” said Abigail Stark, Director of Strategy & Development with Mon Valley Alliance. “Main St. was filled with people shopping, talking, supporting local businesses, and listening to music well past 8:00PM,” she added.

This was a chance for local businesses to shine and showcase their merchandise downtown Monongahela. Shoppers took advantage of deep discounts outside storefronts, and this drew them inside as well. Hosted by the Women in Business in Mon Valley with assistance by Mon Valley Alliance and other organizers, the event featured tasty food, beverages and community involvement. There was tons of shopping, with 34 great vendors and several local businesses staying open late. About 50-60 people looked at the cats in the Mon Valley Alliance building, that were available for adoption that evening.

Of course, one of the main attractions for the many attendees was the live music on opposite sides of town. Everyone enjoyed the great sounds from bands such as The Valley Three, who played a mix of popular classics, and Kemical Kemileon playing high energy rock music.

The final Summer on Main Block Party is August 13, and it is the last in a series.

“Now all we can do is hope that the August 13 Block Party brings us a beautiful rain-free day,” Stark concluded. “But rain or shine, we know our community will continue to show up and support the town. The Women in Business group and our local small businesses are incredibly grateful for everyone’s continued support!”
