With baseball season quickly approaching, a program on Pittsburgh’s baseball stadiums seems timely.

Most area residents are aware that Pittsburgh has had an incredible baseball history with its great players, teams, and historic moments, but few realize that Pittsburgh has also often taken in the lead in ballpark design and development. For its March 25 program, the West Jefferson Hills Historical Society (WJHHS) will feature guest speaker Mark Fatla, a lifelong baseball fan and author of Pittsburgh’s Historic Ballparks, as its speaker. In his presentation, Mr. Fatla will chronicle the nine(9) ballparks that hosted major league baseball in Pittsburgh from 1876 to the present. His historic photographs will illustrate the design and construction phases, the major changes as parks expanded and aged, and eventually the demolition of ballparks.

The WJHHS invites its members and members of the community to attend this free program at 7:00 PM on March 25 in the Community Rooms of the Jefferson Hills Borough Building. The program and its accompanying book (available for purchase) promise to provide a unique perspective on the rich history of Pittsburgh’s ballparks.
