The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Allegheny County invite you to their ‘Garden in the Park’ event Saturday, August 16 from 9:00AM to 1:00PM hosted at their demonstration garden in South Park at the corner of Corrigan Drive and Brownsville Road. Join the Master Gardeners to learn all about backyard gardening!
Stroll through three unique garden areas: the Moon Garden with white and silver plants that create a magical and enchanting space as the sun sets each evening, the Spectrum Garden showing off all colors of the rainbow, and the Gravel Garden which highlights plants that thrive in dry, nutrient-poor conditions. Habitat Hill is currently under construction and is the future home to plants that support bees, birds, and butterflies.
Throughout the event expert speakers will be inside the South Park Theatre providing presentations on Native Plants, Adaptive Gardening, Deer and Drought Resistance plants, Backyard Meadows and more. Master Gardeners will be on site to answer gardening questions, offer tomato and garlic tastings, and provide information on a variety of backyard gardening topics. Local gardening and environmental organizations will be there to share their knowledge and resources. The first 200 attendees will receive a native plant!
While you explore, don’t forget to enjoy a free scoop of delicious Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream. This event is free and open to the public, with no pre-registration required.
