Washington County has been awarded $4,962,458.13 in Act 13 impact funding.
Act 13, signed into law by former Governor Tom Corbett on February 14th, 2012, provides for the imposition of unconventional gas well fees and distributes those funds to local and state governments to support critical developmental efforts and services.
“These funds help us invest in essential services that county residents depend on like infrastructure and environmental protection,” said Commissioner Electra Janis.
The disbursements made through Act 13 help ensure that communities in the county impacted by drilling receive their fair share of funding for projects such as road and bridge repair, housing, and other critical infrastructure needs. Washington County is home to approximately 11% of all unconventional gas wells in the state of Pennsylvania which underscores the importance of these funds for the community.
Additionally, Act 13 impact funding supports water and sewer system upgrades, emergency preparedness, environmental programs, and helps maintain Washington County’s low tax rate. These investments play a crucial role in improving quality of life and offsetting the impacts of energy development across the region.
Washington County remains committed to using Act 13 funds responsibly, transparently, and effectively to meet the needs of its communities. As energy development continues to shape the region, these resources ensure that the county can invest in vital services, increase developmental efforts, and contribute to the common good.
