Bridge Replaced as Part of Public-Private Partnership.
An Allegheny County bridge that began construction in June has been completed in Elizabeth Township.
The West Smithfield Road bridge over Tributary to the Youghiogheny River (JV427) has reopened to traffic today. The work was performed by CH&D. The new bridge is designed to last as long as 100 years.
The West Smithfield Road bridge replacement is part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain for 25 years 558 bridges on state roadways. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
