Carroll Township Board of Supervisors approved the addition of two new policies at the June 7 monthly meeting. The Body Armor Police Directive requires each officer to maintain possession of their issued armor. The Narcan Policy requires township police officers to carry a narcotics kit to respond to overdoses while on duty.
The police reported an unusually high 22 criminal arrests in May, according to Carroll Township Police Chief Paul Brand, who stated that, “Even in Mayberry, they surface time to time.”
The Supervisors also accepted, with regret, the resignation of Leo Zuccarini from the Carroll Township Authority Board, while approving the hire of three summer employees – Dimitri Rossi, Chad Waggoner, and Nick Vavasori – at $10 per hour.
In other business, the Supervisors heard complaints from two residents about neighboring properties.
Maya Patch expressed concern about an uninhabited house that is home to rodents and birds. According to Patch, the birds are a nuisance and health concern, leaving droppings over her home and property.
Patch also asked the township to clean up broken pieces of blacktop along the road next to her house. A piece of the debris broke a window in Patch’s home, resulting in an $800 replacement cost, according to Patch.
Another resident, Alex Ferguson, registered a complaint about a neighboring house on Donora Road that was purchased by a contractor. According to Ferguson, the contents of the house, including toilets and sinks, are on the yard, and rats are now in the neighborhood. He also questioned the township’s grass-cutting ordinances, as weeds at the property are higher than the four-foot fence, according to Ferguson.
