Business & Merchant

By Charlotte Hopkins

There have been great changes at Elizabeth's Top O' the Mornin' Donut Shop since they first opened their doors.

The most popular changes are the variety of espresso drinks and iced coffee lattes, as well as a line of fresh breads, which include focaccia, Italian, cinnamon, raisin, and jalapeno cheddar. Their pepperoni rolls sell out so quickly that owner, Jim Supinsky, now lets customers put in orders to assure availability. The lunch specials have grown to include orange chicken, large sandwiches, and General Tso's.

When they opened, they were selling 300 donuts a day and they are now selling 1,100 donuts daily. Their donuts are now sold in 6 gas stations and Supinsky is investing in new donut boxes and delivery vans. They will deliver to businesses as far away as Pittsburgh, with a minimum order of three dozen.

Top O' the Mornin' is also proud to announce the hiring of celebrity chef Michael Madigan, from TV's cooking show, Chopped. Madigan recently moved to Elizabeth from New York and brought with him the recipe for New York's favorite "Cronuts" (a mixture of croissant and donut). Madigan will also lead the way to the shop's new catering branch, which may be starting as early as September. They will cater corporate events, weddings, graduations, and any need that the customer wishes to have catered. They are seeking to hire servers and set-up people. Those interested in the open positions can apply at the Top O' the Mornin' Donut Shop.

One thing that has not changed is customer dedication. Supinsky credits his customers with their great ideas, which he always takes into consideration. He beamed as he talked about repeat customers that had visited Elizabeth from as far away as California and Europe and had stopped in for his one-of-a-kind donuts, only to return to his shop on their vacations back to town. His regular customers continue to grow in number.

Customer satisfaction is the first priority with Supinsky and his crew, which he refers to as his "small family." Supinsky happily expressed, "It's been a great year - it's wonderful to see that our regulars have stayed by us. It's like we're all friends now."

Next year, they plan to open a second donut shop by the courthouse in Washington, PA.
